A founding principal of Segerberg Mayhew Architects, over the past 30 years Kurt has focused his practice on residential and resort architecture. Kurt received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Kentucky in 1975 and continued his studies at the Washington University in St. Louis where he received his Masters of Architecture and Urban Design degree in 1977. Beginning his career in Louisville, Kentucky, Kurt gained experience as an apprentice architect before heading west to Colorado where he joined the firm Pierce Briner Fitzhugh Scott, an established local architectural firm in Vail, Colorado. By the late 1970's, the rapid expansion of Vail afforded him the opportunity to work on a variety of resort projects ranging from large custom residences to major resort development planning.
Kurt has collaborated with notable development companies including Disney, East West Partners, Marriott, Vail Resorts, Intrawest and others. Kurt has also served on architectural advisory
boards and committees with organizations such as the Beaver
Creek Resort Company.
As a brief Colorado historical anecdote, Kurt's family legacy dates back to the early days of Telluride, Colorado where his grandfather and great uncle, both from Sweden, owned and operated the iconic New Sheridan Hotel and later built the Sheridan Opera House. Using family archives, Kurt was able to coordinate many valuable historical details for its recent renovation.
