This project is a speculative primary/secondary duplex built on a south facing lot along Potato Patch Drive in Vail, Colorado. Exploiting the expansive views of Vail Mountain, the project uses a “split-level” plan layout for both units which works well with the steep grades of this downhill site. The variation of massing, roof elements and native building materials help to differentiate the two units while maintaining good overall architectural continuity. The overall planning approach was to give maximum separation between dwelling units.
